FAILING TO PREPARE IS PREPARING TO FAIL. This is something my dad use to say to me, I don’t think he really said it in the level at which I think about it now (generally it was about football training and game day haha). The reality is that this is probably the most important thing behind any success I’ve had or will have in the future. Any goal you have, you need to prepare for. How much you prepare is dependent on the task at hand. If you have something large obviously you need to prepare for it for longer, if it’s small, then less preparation is needed. When planning use your strengths of how you learn, but focus on the areas you have the weakest knowledge in which are of the highest yield. For me right now I’m preparing to study for my general surgical sciences examination. How do I do this? Well I just highlighted about 215 pages worth of stuff, I’ll be converting them into voice recordings and playing them in the car and at the gym (that’s actually a lot of time that is usually void which will now be utilized), I’m also creating flash cards on a mobile app that then uses an algorithm to present me with the cards that i’m weakest at more frequently. Finally just some light reading too. Now this is a lot, it’s still 11 months away! But by spending a bit of time now, when I have it too in the holidays and it’s not super super stressful, I’m able to save a hell of a lot time later on. So play the game smart! Make sure you plan to succeed!
