Hopeless Fountain Kingdom. 3/7
Part 3: Fool's gold
"The grass is greener..."
Alethea's claws dug deep into the earth as she bolted from the howling children. She thought they'd lost her, but her braid's red ribbon kept her in sight. If only they were close enough, Azrael would yank it, and they'd feast. He licked his lips at the thought.
With wings sprouting from her sides, Alethea flew over a pearly gate they were approaching. After Gabriel pointed out a clipped wing that barely allowed her over, they knew she wouldn't get very far.
Minutes later, the boys squeezed through the gate's bars and found themselves in a beautiful garden. All around them were flowers of every sort completely covered in gold.
Their mouths widened in awe as they traced the caramel-coated roses from stem to petal. Their song and dance hypnotized them, causing them to temporarily forget all about Alethea.
Finally deciding they'd need to take as much of the gold with them, Azrael tugged at the base of the plants. Screaming as they were plucked from their beds, the yellow flowers returned to their original colors and immediately wilted in his hands. Just as the kingdom refused them it's drink, it refused them it's beauty.
The plants crunched as Azrael squeezed them in his fists. His once curious eyes replaced with a fiery rage.
