Okay but can we please talk about how fucking creepy and entitled these internet/IRL dudes are? Like seeing some IPF-level badass women’s lifter get told “sweetie, arching in the Bench will wreck that pretty back of yours” or like... really anything that undermines their achievements as athletes because of their gender is really annoying and helps further the “girls can’t do sports” attitude a lot of non-powerlifters look at powerlifters with (or really the attitude non-athlete men look at female athletes with in general).
It is so cool to see how respectful and inspired by female athletes many of the male athletes in powerlifting and Olympic weightlifting are—I like to brag that I’m proud that we’re the one sport (counting Barbell sports as one sport for this) in which men and women look to each other equally as role models and so openly support each other. I don’t see NBA players supporting WNBA players or MLB supporting USA Softball the same way as you’ll see men support female athletes in barbell sports.
But IG fitness bros hitting on, shitting on, or otherwise underappreciating female powerlifters is so cringe.
EDIT: Also the dudes who aren’t friends with lifters who brag on their videos about the “yeah I can rep 2 plates, I guess you could say I’m pretty serious” or otherwise like making the comment section about themselves... Gross.
